Ideas for teachers: this is a download-able, printable and photocopiable English lesson!

Witchy Speaking: "This is an activity for lower intermediate students. They can use the Internet connection or, if it is not available, teachers can print the text below, photocopy it and use it as a traditional textbook unit, awaiting for the magic of a real Internet.connected computer lab!"

First exciting activity!
If you have an Internet connection click on United States and found out about weather in two cities of two differente states. If you haven't, use the two charts of Andalusia and Georgetown below. Then make comparisons between the two American towns by using the comparative degree.

Example: Andalusia is
hotter than Georgetown but Georgetown is windier.
(First give a look at the chart below to get an idea of the grammar rules).

cold colder the coldest
warm warmer the warmest
wind windier the windiest
hot hotter the hottest
wet wetter the wettest
cloudy cloudier the cloudiest
sunny sunnier the sunniest

Second exciting activity!
Now you find three or more towns so that you even use the superlative degree. Example: Los Angeles is the sunniest town in California.

A new exciting activity!
With your desk-mate you are going to plan a tour to the most important European capitals. Follow these steps:

  • Search the site in order to find out about the temperatures and the weather conditions. (Alternatively you might plan a safari to Africa or a trekking trip on Tibet mountains).
  • Save the most interesting pages on your PC
  • Read the dialogue below just to draw some inspiration...
You: What about going to Paris ?
Your friend: That’s impossible: it’s too cold: only 5 degrees! And the weather forecast says it’s going to rain all the weekend!
You: If it weren’t so cold we could go to Prague...
Your friend: We can’t: it’s even colder there! And it’s snowing.
You: Then we could go to Madrid. It’s summer there at the moment...
Your friend: Good idea! We could sunbathe and swim on Costa del Sol beaches!

Have lots of fun in Costa del Sol!!!
